Someone once told me, “The key to true happiness in life is to have dreams. The key to your success is when all your dreams come true”! So how do we make our dreams become our reality?
Step 1: Think Big
“As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, think big.” Donald Trump
You must have a vision, something you knew deep down was yours to build and grow. That once created would change the lives of people around you forever. Dare to dream, continue to believe and most importantly, don’t be afraid to implement straight away.
Step 2: Set Goals
“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” Napoleon Hill
When you set goals for yourself, it is important that they motivate you: this means making sure that they are important to you, and that there is value in achieving them. Motivation is the key to achieving goals. Your Goals must always be written so you can refer back to them at any time. The language you use must always be written in the now.
Here are some great rules on how to implement your goals properly. Your goals should be:
• Time Bound.
Specific: You goal must be clear and well defined. Vague or generalized goals are unhelpful because they don’t provide sufficient direction. Remember, you need goals to show you the way. Make it as easy as you can to get where you want to go by defining precisely where you want to end up.
Measurable: Include precise amounts, dates, and so on in your goals so you can measure your degree of success. It’s important to continually monitor yourself and your progress within the set goal. Without a way to measure your success you miss out on the celebration that comes with knowing you have actually achieved something!
Attainable: This must be something you believe you can achieve. It’s important to constantly stretch yourself, however be mindful that if deep down you don’t believe it can be done, you will lose motivation and perhaps confidence in your abilities to achieve the ultimate success.
Relevant: Your goals should be consistent with the direction you want your life and career to take. When you’re in alignment it’s much easier to keep focused and motivated to continually strive for your desired.
Time Bound: This is the key to it all. You must be specific in the time you set. Write it down as if it’s now:
example – “It’s 2.30pm, October 30th 2012 and I have just signed off on my first contract multi-million dollar contract with the government”…
Step 3: Belief
“Belief in oneself is one of the most important bricks in building any successful venture”. Lydia M. Child
Believe in yourself, your mission, your purpose and all that’s important to you. We are the heroes in our lives and the only ones who will continually support us on our missions. It’s all about being motivated by what we do and where we want to go. Know what we are good at and give up trying to be perfect and instead strive for excellence.
Courage is saying to fear “get the hell out of the way, I got things to be getting on with.”
We must never doubt that we have the ability to act in the face of uncertainty and the more confidence we have the more willing we are to put ourselves on the line even without having all the answers!
Step 4: Take Action
“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” Vidal Sassoon
Success is the journey, not the destination. Repeated trial and error is the difference between someone who makes it and someone who doesn’t. Dedication, work, effort and perseverance are what will separate you from the heard. Your dream is just that until you take action and believe me, when you put in the big ones and you achieve your goals, there is nothing in this universe that compares!
Step 5: Leadership
“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” Bill Gates
To be successful you must be a great leader. Coming from a position of strength, a great leader takes risks by freeing up the creative genius in their followers to build their capability and multiply the talents of the organization. This leads to community and further greatness. By powerfully communicating a vision that animates, motivates, and inspires followers, a great leader is able to transform his or her organization whilst having a profound impact on the lives around them.
When you really lead, you will succeed.
“There is no such thing as failure, only feedback”. Tony Robbins
